Postcard Project Update - Saturday, January 17, 2004

The Postcard Project is mentioned on this blog or whatever it is. Here are the details:

:[ Een kaartje voor moeder... ]:
cptmarco meldde ons het volgende:
Vaag, iemand wil graag dat zijn moeder heel veel post krijgt.....
http://www.postcardsformom.com/

Got it?

Spent last night at mom's. Swiped some postcards when she wasn't looking. I'll post them early next week when I can get to a scanner.

Sarah, a girl who found the site, however, ROCKS! She scanned the postcard and emailed it to me before she mailed it. Look in the gallery to see her card.

As for mom, she is loving the whole thing. I was not accused of much last night, and of course I mentioned my brother's bottlecap collection... hehe

Keep posting your ideas for March. Some good ones out there. Well, except for the toenails.. (eww!)

Postcard Project Update - Thursday, January 15, 2004

Only 9 days left to mail mom a bottlecap. Ater the 25th, don't send 'em. Get ready for 'Business Card February'.

I'll be posting a poll around the first of Feb. with the top suggestions given by you, the readers. My brother and I will leave the decision up to you. Suggestions include:

- Send mom a dollar (this goes against my plan of a 37 cent max cost. maybe i'll consider it for May, Mom's b-day month)
- A recipe
- A food or beer bottle wrapper (If we did that, I'd like to make it specific, like refried bean wrappers, or something really strange but easily accessible)
- A piece of material or thread
- Flower seeds (this may be good, mom is curious enough to plant them)

Got a good idea?

Mom hates Velveeta. Hates it with a passion.

I had heard mentioned somewhere (the radio, maybe?) about this recipe for Velveeta Fudge. That gave me an idea. (you, too, can make Velveeta Fudge. Here's the recipe)

For Thanksgiving, Mom asked us to bring a dessert. Perfect.

You know what I did. We left it there, too.

And I didn't tell Mom about it for 2 weeks. She had already consumed one whole tin of fudge and had started on the second.

I love you, Mom.

Someone left me a comment saying that this was like the movie Amilie. Anyone know what she was talking about?

Realized this morning that the archives were not working. The link now works, although there aren't really any archives yet, since the blog portion has only been running for about a week...

Today we will exceed 10,000 hits to the site. Not bad for only 15 days online. Thank you to everyone who continues to make this a success.

Postcard Project Update - Wednesday, January 14, 2004

Just talked to Mom on the phone. She got back from Texas last night at 1:30AM. After the initial hellos, here's what happened:

Mom: Not that you know anything about it, but whoever is sending me stuff is probably really pissing off the post office.
Me: Umm, ok, why? (I sound so innocent!)
Mom: Apparently people are now sending me bottlecaps, but I'm not getting them. I guess the machines at the post office are tearing the envelopes. I keep getting empty envelopes with holes in them.
Me: Oh wow, how weird!
Mom: Yeah. I've got 2 bottlecaps here that made it through, but most of the envelopes that are coming are empty. So, whoever is responsible for this needs to be told that they need to package them better. The two that made it through were nicely taped up.
Me: Ok, well I'll email Kevin. (perfect place to interject that name... heh)
Mom: I've also got a few postcards and even a real long letter. I'll show it to you when you come up
Me: A letter?! This is so weird mom!

This is a blast.

As for you people out there who have yet to mail mom something, try to tape it up a little. I have a feeling this will just go down as a lesson learned. I don't want to make anyone spend money on fancy envelopes, etc. The idea of the project is something that costs 37 cents or less.

Thanks to all have sent mom stuff so far. Next month will be much easier.

Since the creation of this project my mother has accused me of masterminding the whole thing. I am not that creative. She told me over the weekend that she had a lot of mail waiting for her when she gets home and Jim believes there are bottle caps in envelopes. Still denying having any knowledge of what is going on.

Well now I have a voice to defend my good name. I am the brother that is being accused of all of this madness. I am not the creative one but in my brothers creativity i am being implicated. I will let y'all know what she (mom) tells me as the events unfold and accusations fly.

The Postcard Project is starting to make its way to some blogs. Since I can't advertise it on any of my websites (for fear that Mom will click it), I'd appreciate your help in telling your friends about the site. Link to it in your blog.

Some of the current links I've found:

golfgirl.blogspot.com
casafrankenstein.blogspot.com
cantthinkstr8.blogspot.com

There are also a lot of referrer links from emails. Apparently many people are emailing the site to friends. Rock on.

Francine is Oakland, CA says: "...you are a very cool son and your Mom must be awesome for you to take time to do this for (I mean, to!) her!!..."

Francine, my Mom - awesome? hmm... I've never considered that thought. Me - cool son? Yeah, I've considered that. And it's true.

Postcard Project Update - Tuesday, January 13, 2004

Spent the weekend in Houston. Mom was there, with all her brothers and sisters. She mentioned several times that she had received "more postcards", but no mention yet of bottlecaps.

At one restaurant, my brother discreetly asked for the bottlecap to the beer he was drinking. The waitress was a bit loud with her answer, and it was no longer a discreet request. That's great. I hope mom saw what was going on.

I've added my brother to this news page, and he will be posting his experiences as well.
