Postcard Project Update - Friday, October 08, 2004

Sorry guys...I have to post this through Will as my internet is on the fritz!!!

and....we're OFF!!! 1st letter received yesterday and she is so confused/excited. I do believe I am the first prankster to witness initial letter receipt!!!! We went over to her house last night to take her to dinner and being the thrifty mom she is she suggested she check her mail for some coupons before we picked where we went (YES!!). We all drove over to the get her mail from her box and low and behold there is the golden letter!

"Well who in the heck is Dr. Tim!" She was flabbergasted, and certainly did not remember the piece of canvas the two of them found the night he spilled his drink and lost his keys, LOL!

Of course she accused me of doing it but I denied it with complete believability, and along with the assistance of my wife ("Who do we know in Georgia, that would send this ?") the initial blame has been deflected quite well.

And...I had no guilt from lying as the questions asked were..."you sent this didn't you" well, no I didn't (*truth*), and "then you know who did" and actually, no I don't ( *truth*), I know who Dr. Tim is about as much as she does. She really thought it was funny though and I have NEVER seen someone rack their brain so hard to remember someone. Dr. Tim...good work!

OK! Now that we know she thinks its funny (she said is even taking it to work to show her friends!)....SEND, SEND, SEND, and POST, POST, POST...get the word out...QUICK! I want them to have to leave one of those USPS boxes for her next to her mailbox she has so much! Tell a friend, tell a co-worker, tell everyone you know to send MOM a postcard!

Love,
Rick

Postcard Project Update - Thursday, October 07, 2004

I just got an email from Betty, so she's onboard. Talked to Mom (Celeste) today, she's onboard.

You may want to mention them in your correspondence. They all have something in common, afterall...

Postcard Project Update - Wednesday, October 06, 2004

Well Mom is sick, so yesterday either she didnt get anything, or my guess, she didnt check her mail. I see this as good, as it means when she does check it there will be more stuff at once to start her off (hopefully this will be today).

I know this has been metioned before, but every city and town has a little paper, if you know anyone there, or if you can just send an email to them mentioning the site, we need to get some publicity generated. I have been doing CL postings and mentions on some fairly high traffic sites, but I dont know how much its helping. I think the best way to get the word out is word of mouth and referrals on other blogs, so tell a friend (or 50) .

Yall are great!

Love,
Rick

Postcard Project Update - Tuesday, October 05, 2004

Good Morning All:

I'm not sure, but with the address being up on Sunday, I think today might be the first day Mom gets some mail. If so, I am sure I will hear about it this afternoon/evening and will post tomorrow morning! According to Will the address requests are coming in, so make sure your blogging and posting where ever you can as obviously it helps! Every hit counts and is a potential address request right??! Also, I'm still looking for ideas for additional publicity so let me know if you have some.

I started an email forward yesterday with the info for the sight, I thought that would be an interesting way to spread the word as well. If you would like a copy of the forward to send on to your forward list, leave a comment with your email address and I will send it to you.

So you all know...my goal is to find a way to sneak all of the weeks correspondence out once a week and scan it in for the galleries. So make sure you check back if you send a letter, you might see yours in the gallery. I know none of mine ever made it and I was kinda sad, so I am hoping to get everyones in.

Stay tuned...

Love,
Rick

From Julie:

Will, I recently got a surprise at the PO that made me think of you: my 4 x 6 -sized postcard required a full $.37! Apparently they're now enforcing the postage rule that says the 3 x 5 cards can go for $.23 but anything larger (and 4 x 6 is the size of photos that most of us get when we have film processed these days, so you know that's not exactly JUMBO-sized or anything) will cost a few cents more...

Postcard Project Update - Monday, October 04, 2004

Here comes the newsletter. Let the sending begin!

Want to help Rick? Look at our new share section and pick out a graphic.

And we're off!!!...Address is up! "about Mom" is up! This is awesome! Thanks Will!!! Can't wait for her to get her first piece of Corr!!! I have done some posting on CL (craigslist) this morning as well as some blogs for sending correspondence to soldiers over seas. I think that would be really cool if she could get some letters from our folks out there supporting our country. I realized how hard this is gonna be keeping the secret this weekend when I talked to her and all I could think about was her lil mailbox filled with fabric scraps! I cant imagine what she is gonna think! We'll find out shortly and I will let you know.

Love,
Rick

Postcard Project Update - Sunday, October 03, 2004

I've updated the site, and the new address is now available. If you can't wait for the newsletter to get the address, you can go to www.postcardsformom.com/sending.htm.

I'll do my darndest to get the newsletter done tomorrow morning at work (if I can avoid actual work - which I'm pretty good at). I'll also try to get the graphics done so you can all put them on your sites and blog(s).

Rick's pretty excited, lets not let him down!
