Postcard Project Update - Friday, November 04, 2005
NEWSFLASH!!
Just fielded a call from a "freaked out" Judy. Seems that she received a few strange pieces of mail yesterday and didn't think much of it until they were followed by even more mail today! She told me the whole chronology of the items as they arrived. On Thursday she received a promotional postcard from Fairfield Properties in Cambridge, MA along with a letter and a key from Mandy in Texas. Today she received 2 items from St. Louis: a Reading is Fundamental postcard and a postcard for an art exhibit. There was a card with a picture of Soldier's Field in Chicago from Shelley, a letter (and I believe a key or picture of a key) from Lynn and finally a few pages from Sunny Bak in Venice. She reported that she finds this "creepy" and doesn't know why she's getting all this mail from random people she doesn't know. The creep factor was compounded by some references in the letters to "Patrick" and "the girls". I turned the whole thing into something fun and amusing and told her that she shouldn't be freaked out since it was obviously all very nice and amusing... nothing malicious or stalker-ish. She asked if I knew what it was about, and I said I had heard of such things with e-mail but never in real life. She said another friend had asked if she had signed up for any information on timeshares or something on a website... I feel bad that shes creeped out but i think a few more items will show her that it's just some sort of joke and that there aren't people plotting to abduct her. All my siblings still plan to stay strong and tight-lipped about any involvement. I think eventually she may suspect one of us, but she certainly won't think that all 4 have set her up for this grand prank! Question: what were the other's moms initial reactions? Were some of them creeped out as well? How did it progress... did they soon realize it was a prank and just wonder who was behind it? or were they just as confused when each letter arrived? UPDATE: Oh my god, I forgot the best part! Sunny sent her a letter and signed it and put her phone number down and Judy actually called the number! No one answered and she didn't leave a message.
Oh the anticipation . . .
Surely Judy has received an item or two by now. I wonder how long it will take her to figure out that this isn't an isolated incident of misdirected mail because it just KEEPS COMING and all addressed to her. I bet she'll be talking soon. I sent another postcard today, just to say "Hi and to keep in touch". My name today was Lynn. I wasn't feeling very creative so I didn't have an elaborate story to share with her, maybe tomorrow . . . Postcard Project Update - Thursday, November 03, 2005Ch-ch-ch-changes Sorry about the changes around here, I figured since we're trying to keep this thing afloat I should do my geek-part and optimize the site for search engines. I've been doing a bit of reading (see?) and it has come to my attention that I needed to move some stuff around. You should notice a few minor changes (like the word postcard plastered all over) and a few slight design modifications as well. If the site is down, or acting really goofy when you visit, be not afraid. It's simply some dork in St. Louis modifying the pages because he has nothing else to do... Oh, and since you all like that dang word so much, I've decided to make Hooters my unofficial Postcard Project sponsor. Jen, since you like saying it so much, you owe me a beer (and wings!). See how that worked out? Postcard Project Update - Tuesday, November 01, 2005
My First Post
Hello! This is Malice, aka the chief POSTCARD prankster. Thank you all for your votes and support for my mother Judy. She will be very confused by the letters... I cannot wait for E.T.'s notification that the first one has come in. Just to let you all know, I will be on top of things and make sure that updates are made regularly. I will keep everyone up-to-date on her reactions and most likely guesses and accusations as to who is behind this. E.T. will keep an ongoing count of how many letters come in, provide a first person account of her mindset throughout the process, AND he will steal letters that will then be scanned and added to the site and he will also take photos (with his new digital camera!!) of the growing collection of cards and items at home. And don't be worried that he might not be able to keep it all under wraps... he is a 17 year old male, after all. I am open to all of your suggestions on what would make this prank better. I'm sure that being the mother of 4 devious children, Judy will probably eventually suspect that one (or more) of us is behind it, so I'm already working on some ways to throw her off the trail. Although my parents are divorced, we've recruited my dad, Corrin into the prank as well. He will help throw her off track and also can assist with the tech support aspect, as I'm sure E.T. will need some help at some point. Both of my sister, Corinna and Cecelia will be home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, although I won't be home for either holiday. They have sworn to give super detailed reports of what they find out when they are there. I will continue to post little tidbits about Judy and try to think of some cool items that would really blow her mind. If you have any questions to help you get into the Judy mindset, don't hesitate to ask. It is obvious that there were some disappointments in the past, so hopefully my siblings and I can perform to the desired level with this prank. more to come....
Day 1
Well, we are officially one day into our Judy project. Several of you have let us know what you've sent to Judy and she should be receiving the cards and letters from all of her long lost friends in just a couple of days. I chuckled just imagining what she will think when she reads the first one, the second, the third and then oh my! they just keep coming, and what's up with all of these keys?! Are you making up good stories? Let us know in the comment section below. Postcard Project Update - Monday, October 31, 2005
Happy Halloween!
This is no trick, only a treat - the newsletter went out today and it contains Judy's address - we are up and mailing once again! The only way to get the address is to subscribe to the newsletter which is a once a month deal that contains an opt-out feature if you are no longer interested. So come on, join the fun, send something to Judy. Postcard Project Update - Sunday, October 30, 2005
1st item of the month for Judy
Okay, I'll admit, this one is a repeat. I don't think you will be disappointed though. It seems that all of our previous Mom's enjoyed this item the best, and we sure are able to make up some crazy stories when the item of the month is : keys. Judy's family is working on picking out future items of the month, things that might confuse poor Judy even more than the keys. Go ahead, get started fabricating a tall tale to send to Judy along with a key or maybe a picture of the Florida Keys or a keyboard, the possibilities are endless. Stay tuned to your email box, the newest edition of the newsletter will provide Judy's address. Thanks for playing along.
